Dress to be WEDnesday

Whispers of Winter:  Muted Silver and White and Green and Gold Wedding Palette

The Thanksgiving leftovers are barely finished, but it already seems we are headlong into the winter and holiday season.  For this month's Dress to be WEDnesday feature, Live Eventfully- KristynJennifer Events and Dress For The Wedding decided to depart from the red and green color palette so often seen in holiday decor at this time of year, and instead use the soft white, green, and metallic neutrals that are naturally found during this season for our inspiration. These colors are so subtle, we're calling them "Whispers of Winter". To show you what kind of frosty details we're thinking of, we pinned some images on our Whispers of Winter inspiration board on Pinterest. If you're planning a winter wedding, or this is the theme you'd like for your upcoming event, Live Eventfully- KristynJennifer Events, can make this understated winter wonderland look come together for you.

Whispers of Winter

Dress For The Wedding has also been inspired by these soft muted colors lately, too. They look so sophisticated! Here are my three "Whispers of Winter" looks for a bride, bridesmaid, and groom.

Winter Bridal Look: White and Gold and Sparkle

One of my favorite things about winter bridal looks is that everything looks so soft and dream-like in the winter light. I chose this organza wedding gown by Theia because I think it has such a nice ice princess look (I sound like a 6-year-old saying this, but I mean a nice kind of ice princess, not a mean one!), and I've put it with some golden accessories full of their own sparkles to warm in up. Isn't the necklace amazing?

The one winter bride must-have in my book is a faux-fur white stole (emphasis on the faux, we don't want to hurt any furry friends, here!)  I love how it looks in pictures, and it's truly needed to protect the bride from the chill as she's getting to and from the church.

Winter Bridesmaid Look: Icy Gray

I started to add some green touches to this gray dress, but I soon found that the gray by itself was so striking! Instead, perhaps the green touches could come in with pale green velvet ribbon in the flowers, and some beautiful evergreen trimmings in her bouquet and around the ceremony and the reception. Can you imagine how deliciously pine-y scented that would be? For the attire, I opted for a monochromatic icicle gray for all the accessories: some pave sparkle earrings that resemble icy snow, a sparkle clutch and a thick gray necklace, that has some pale rose tones to warm up the whole look.

Winter Groom's Look: Classic Black Tuxedo

There's nothing more classic than a groom in a tuxedo with shawl collar like this one, with an elegant tie for a winter wedding. If you're lucky enough to get snow falling, the black tux looks so sharp against the white background. You can't fool around with a tux too much, and you don't need to -- just pair it with a white shirt, and some shiny, well-made formal shoes.

I'd recommend just adding a few subtle pieces of personality, like these little dots on the otherwise black bow tie, and the whimsical skier cuff-links. I think adding a rich, wool, opera scarf for the groom to wear during outside picture taking adds some fun to the winter spirit, too!

I hope these frosty whispers of winter have actually warmed your heart. Until next month, enjoy the holiday season!

Dress to be WEDnesday!! Happy Halloween.

Orange and Green Wedding - Dress to be WEDnesday

Happy Halloween, everyone! It's also the final Wednesday of the month which means it's Dress to be WEDnesday, the day that Dress for the Wedding - Sukey and I bring  you a dose of wedding inspiration through event design and wedding attire suggestions.  To pay tribute to October, we decided to show you an orange and green color palette today.

Yes, sometimes orange and green around Halloween can call to mind those chewy little candy-corn-like pumpkins the with green stem on top, but done with a refined touch, these two colors can look very sophisticated together. Taking a cue from the leaves turning orange against the green grass hills, these hues are natural together, and perfect for a fall wedding!

If this is a wedding theme you're thinking of, visit our Pinterest board where we've collected many ideas for you. And, to get some help any help with the planning for your orange and green wedding, contact KristynJennifer to put together an elegant event. Here's a sampling of our pins:

If green and orange is your theme, here are Sukey's picks for some pretty bridesmaids' dresses and green and orange pairings. She thinks the key with a bold pairing like this is to pick a main color (i.e., either the orange or the green as the dress color for your bridesmaids). Then, add little touches of both the accent color and the main color, especially in your flowers and decor. When you see it paired in a balanced way, you'll see this is also a great color combination for spring or summer weddings, too!

If you call it lime and tangerine, bright orange and chartreuse or just plain orange and green. If this is the color pairing for you, we hope this has given you even more ideas on how to put it together in a lovely way! Happy Halloween, and happy wedding planning!

Dress to be WEDnesday

9.26.2012

This month, KristynJennifer Events and Dress For The Wedding were so in sync when planning our theme for Dress to be WEDnesday!  Sukey of Dress For The Wedding had just attended a beautiful wedding for her friends in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, at the same time that Kristyn had been pinning rustic mountain themes to her inspiration boards. So, it didn't take us long to decide this month: let's do a mountain themed wedding!

You can see more of this inspiration on LiveEventfully's Pinterest boards, especially on the one dedicated to this theme called Take Me Home Country Roads.  Following all Live Eventfully boards is an excellent idea to get your daily dose of Live Eventfully's creativity.

Dress For The Wedding also made some mountain themed inspiration boards which you can see here on Style Me Pretty and here by viewing their bundles on Lover.ly .These helped to get us both  in the right frame of mind. Sukey has a fabulous eye for detail and design!

Sukey's (Dress For The Wedding) Take on a Mountain Theme :

If you think a mountain theme wedding might be for you, let me tell you about my wonderful recent wedding experience. My friends really planned a perfect weekend - all of the guests stayed in the cutest cabins and lodges, we ascended the mountain for their beautiful ceremony which overlooked the mountains and a lovely lake below. For decor, we enjoyed a beautifully decorated tent with the centerpieces of freshly picked wildflowers. For the after parties,  we all roasted marshmallows around the campfire, and went kayaking and waterskiing with the newly married couple the next day.

If this sounds like your kind of weekend (I know my husband and I loved it!) Kristyn can help make this kind of idea a reality for you, too!

Kristyn's (from Live Eventfully) Take on a Mountain Theme:

After visiting Colorado this Summer I was inspired to design a Mountain Theme Event. I was inspired by the crisp air, smell of pine, the natural sound of the babbling brook, and the breathtaking views from every direction. My family and I enjoyed hiking different peaks, biking down the mountain in Vail, walking the streets of Breckenridge, and wearing sweatshirts in the middle of July! All things you and your guests could enjoy during a weekend at a Mountain Themed Wedding.

Imagine getting married on top of a mountain in September or October. The birds chirping, a light crisp breeze, a beautiful backdrop for every picture, wild flowers surrounding your guest’s feet, and the smell of a fireplace burning or apple pie cooking. The creativity and ideas are endless!

Attire Ideas for the Wedding Party
As far as what to wear, here are the thoughts Sukey had: "First of all, under the general theme of "mountain" and rustic; one can have so many different other interpretations: a woodland theme, a hiking theme, a skiing theme, a wildflower theme, or a western theme... The list really can span whatever best reflects the couple's interests.  Secondly, while you certainly can wear a traditional gown and have traditional bridesmaids dresses, you don't necessarily have to! Pulling out a few of those ideas, here's what I've come up with for the bridal party to wear":

Wildflower Theme Wedding

For a wildflower mountain theme, I love the way all the brightly saturated hues of wildflowers, seen in the inspiration board pictures, just pop against a blue. There's also something about the ruffled collar of the Blakely dress by J.Crew, that looks right in this outside environment. (This dress also comes in pearl gray that I think is perfect for winter weddings.) I also love that bright yellow in that ball flower above, (called Craspedia or a Billy Ball flower) so I thought it would be pretty if the bridesmaids were carrying those bouquets, and had a fun pop of bright yellow on their feet. The photos would be so stunning, and the look would really reflect the beautiful bright colors of nature.
Alpine Hiking Theme

I found this tweedy strapless dress, which I just adore. It's just so hunty/mountainy, and I though with tweed shoes, and some nature-inspired accessories, and a olive striped tie for the groomsmen, it would be a classic alpine-y look, which a chic twist to it. You could also put this with rubber Hunter boots, for another kind of fun outdoorsy feel.

Western Mountain Theme

This third look is just a simple red country patterned dress, which would be great for a mountain wedding - especially fitting in the western-ward region. There's no need to necessarily have silk and satin in an outside setting for your bridesmaids, I really like the idea of just a simple dress, and I always think the pictures with the girls in their dresses and their cowboy boots all lined up look so pretty! Add some western accessories like the turquoise shown here, and you have a complete western mountain wedding look.

Winter Ski Lodge Mountain Theme

This look might be my favorite - a rich damask ice blue for a winter mountain wedding. Picture all of your bridesmaids lined up by the fire in a ski lodge with these icey-looking dresses and jewelry, and the fellows in those cool blue ties ties.  Snowy and cozy! Makes me want hot chocolate just thinking about it now.

Lastly, for the bride of a mountain wedding, well, she can wear pretty much anything she chooses! While one doesn't want to be clearing pine needles with one's train, certainly outside under the trees is a grand as any cathedral and can accommodate a grand dress.  My friend who got married this month, chose the most beautiful lace strapless dress, which also suited the occasion perfectly.

The look I'm showing here, is more of a fairy/wood nymph kind of theme, yet another take on a mountain woodland theme, because I couldn't help myself with those leafy accessories. I think they look etheral, natural, relaxed with this dress from  J.Crew.

No matter which of the many mountain themes you may choose, there is clearly a number of venues, approaches to decor and style that can be created to reflect a couple's individual taste and style.
